Eighteen years of efficient sleep.
Since the Quieting, the average adult sleeps 6 hours 41 minutes with no remembered dreams, no night terrors, and no lost mornings. This service exists to answer your questions and to tell you what to do in the rare event that a household member cannot be woken.
Guidance for households
Keep sleep efficient
Fixed lights-out, cool rooms, no screens after the tone. Dream recall is a symptom of inefficient sleep and is not expected in healthy adults.
Report recall promptly
If you or a family member remembers a dream, log it the same morning. Recall episodes are reviewed within one business day and are not a cause for alarm.
Do not wake the sleeping
Sleepers who do not respond are in a stable state. Waking attempts have not been shown to help and may disturb the household. Wait for the responder.
Questions we are asked
Is it normal to never remember a dream?
Yes. Since the Quieting, dream recall in adults is negligible. This is the expected outcome of efficient sleep.
My daughter says she "went somewhere" while asleep. What should I do?
Children sometimes describe vivid impressions on waking. Reassure her, log the episode, and keep to lights-out. If she reports the same place twice, call the Overnight Line.
Are the reports about a city true?
There is no city. Accounts circulating online describe a shared impression of rain, a tower, and a "door", and are attributable to suggestion. We ask that you do not share them.
Why does the advisory say not to wake them?
Because it does not work. In 100% of logged cases the sleeper woke on their own schedule or not at all. The responder will explain the next steps.
What is case prefix 0817?
An internal routing code for non-waking reports. You do not need to understand it. Say it clearly and give your address.

Figures are provisional. The figure for the Northeast corridor is a reporting artefact and will be corrected in Bulletin 18.4.
